A new limited edition of the 3 Fauteuil Grand Confort, grand modèle, durable — the iconic armchair designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand — has been unveiled as part of an exclusive collaboration between Cassina and Kiton.
Blending the worlds of high design and fine tailoring, the partnership brings a fresh, sartorial twist to a timeless classic. The armchair is reimagined with exclusive Kiton fabrics, transforming the modernist masterpiece into a collectible piece with contemporary flair.
This special edition marks the union of two Italian powerhouses, both driven by a shared commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and meticulous attention to detail.
Launched on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret® and Charlotte Perriand® Collection edited by Cassina, this version is inspired by the models designed in 1928 for Villa Church, a residence near Paris designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. For this project, together with Charlotte Perriand, the architects conducted in-depth research into the use of color, exploring chromatic pairings that would enhance the interaction between furniture, space, and user.
In the version created with Kiton, the pairing of blue and burgundy results in two bi-color variants of the armchair, emphasizing the dialogue between form, finish, and environment. This color choice reflects the design approach of Le Corbusier, Perriand, and Jeanneret, for whom color was essential to defining spatial harmony.
This special edition reinterprets the iconic armchair with an exclusive cashmere velvet touch upholstery, crafted at Kiton’s Biella-based wool mill using fibers sourced from the finest Mongolian farms. Selected for their purity and quality, the fibers measure 16.5–17 microns in fineness and 35–38 mm in length—characteristics that ensure exceptional softness and durability. After an initial washing phase, the fibers are processed using a traditional carded spinning system in a small artisanal workshop in Biella. This method preserves the natural structure of the cashmere, resulting in an even, soft yarn. The yarn is then woven into a fabric with a compact structure and a natural velvet effect.
The tubular metal frame of the armchair features a new glossy blue finish; the cushion padding and seat are made from recycled fiber, while the foamed elements contain a percentage of bio-based polyurethane. Offered in two bi-color versions — blue and burgundy — the Kiton x Cassina armchair is available in a limited edition of 120 pieces, evenly split between the two colorways.
“We have always dreamed of elevating a piece of furniture with Kiton’s extraordinary raw materials and fabrics. Today, this dream becomes reality through an exceptional collaboration, bringing to life the iconic 3 Fauteuil Grand Confort, grand modèle, durable by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, part of the Cassina iMaestri Collection, upholstered in our exclusive cashmere,” says Antonio De Matteis, CEO of Kiton.
The collaboration with Cassina marks a key moment for Kiton, fueling the development of its home collection. Backed by a heritage of exceptional tailoring and continuous research into material quality, the Arzano-based company is preparing to expand its offering with a new approach to home design—merging the timeless elegance of its fabrics with a vision of contemporary living.
"Beyond the honor of collaborating with a design icon like Cassina, this partnership is also a tribute to my father, Ciro Paone, founder of the Maison and a passionate design enthusiast,” adds Maria Giovanna Paone, President of Kiton. “Always a forerunner in the art of collecting beauty, his vision has guided Kiton from one generation to the next. He deeply appreciated masterful design, where form and function converge in a perfect balance—a synthesis of aesthetics, craftsmanship, and uncompromising quality that also defines Kiton's identity.”
This fusion of tradition, tailoring, and innovation has been previewed on April 10 at the Kiton boutique in Milan, during Milan Design Week 2025.
